![]() ![]() On top of that, PWLI has continued to have job issues (the current job that was supposed to be a contract-to-hire decided to hire someone else).Īnyway, I’m glad I was at least able to get Michaelsmount done, but with all that stuff, along with my own job getting busy again, I just don’t have any extra mental energy right now. My dog had the broken tooth extracted yesterday, so he’s not real happy right now, but he should be feeling better soon. It went well, but it was exhausting! And then my dog broke a tooth on a chew toy and attacked a smaller dog (probably because he was in so much pain, but we didn’t know at the time) – smaller dog is fine, but it was scary. Then we had a big family vacation with people from both my and PWLI’s sides of the family. ![]() I got hit with a wave of writer’s block in the first few weeks – the same thing happened last August I guess I just kind of get late-summer depression the way some people get late-winter depression. So that’s good, but all in all, August wasn’t the greatest month. I’m proud of some of the ways I managed to streamline some complex combinations of variables toward the end. I still have to tweak a couple things and run the automated bug tests, but all the drafting is done. Well, the good news is that the Michaelsmount branch is more or less finished. I’ll try my best! The end is in sight – okay, it’s a fuzzy, far-off sight, but I can see it! Now I’m feeling motivated to write again, but finding any time for writing in October is always a challenge. ![]() So now everything I’ve written is (apparently) free of technical bugs, though I’m sure there will be tons of continuity bugs, like Lancelot popping up when he’s not supposed to be there, or not being there when he’s supposed to be – bad Lancelot! I’ll be counting on all of you to help me catch those when the time comes.Īfter I finished the bug testing, I had a couple of weeks of just feeling overwhelmed by life and I had to give myself a mental break. I look forward to telling people once Book II is completely updated. One of them was especially funny to me, but I don’t want to spoil anything by saying what the scene was. I merged the two versions of the Michaelsmount branch into one huge file ( over 100k words!) and then fired up the automated bug testers… and wow, were there a lot of things to fix! Some of them were things that would have run fine but the bugtesters just didn’t like some were real bugs like incorrect variable names and missing parentheses, and then there were two instances of looping – where if I hadn’t fixed them, poor Guen would have been trapped in a Groundhog-Day-esque cycle of repeating the same short sequence of events over and over. I don’t have a whole lot to show for September, but that doesn’t mean I didn’t do anything. One of my longest-standing and most helpful readers (who knows a ton more about Arthurian tradition than I do!) commissioned this gorgeous drawing of Maris and Bretta from the incredibly talented perplexingly as a gift for me. PWLI and I have been going through yet another round of financial stress, but it looks like that is about to get better, so I can spend less mental energy worrying about the future and more on Guenevere! I should also be able to get a bit more time for writing in November, and I’m very much looking forward to it. I’ve figured out a lot of it, but I still have many, many details to fill in. I’m slowly mapping it out in about ten different files (one for each major character, a master timeline, a backwards plot outline, and notes on different factions like the Pellinores, the Lothians, the druids, and the Goddess-worshipers). There were a couple of times when I was feeling too brain-dead to write but still had a few minutes away from work stuff, so I reread Geoffrey of Monmouth and got some more inspiration for my version of the big complicated backstory involving Arthur’s parents and the previous generation. (And then after that, there will be an even more complicated set of possible conversations Guen can have with Arthur.) Guen and Lancelot have found out what’s causing that thing that happens when they touch each other, so I’m now starting on the many, many variations of the conversation they can have about that, depending on their feelings toward one another and what has or hasn’t already transpired. I ended up with a paltry 4000 words, but hey, anything is better than nothing. Whew… As usual, I wasn’t lacking in motivation to write during October, but my work obligations made it just about impossible to get any time. ![]()
